The Latrobe girls field hockey team traveled to WPIAL AA, Division 2 Upper St. Clair for a varsity only game Monday evening to open the 2020 field hockey season. The Wildcats came out strong, possessing the ball for the majority of the first quarter, but could not convert. The game stayed scoreless until halfway through the fourth quarter when junior Alexa Jogun broke the tie with an unassisted goal. Senior Lauren Jones tallied her first goal of the season three minutes later. Jogun finished off the scoring with her second goal late in the game to seal the 3-0 win over the host Panthers. Senior goalkeepers Marissa Novak and Gracie Blycheck combined for 10 saves along with strong defensive play to earn the shutout. The Wildcats had a 17-10 edge in shots, while earning 4 penalty corners to 7 for the Panthers.
The Wildcats (1-0 Division 2, 1-0 overall) host Division 2 WPIAL AA Woodland Hills on Wednesday, September 16 for Senior Night. Senior players will be recognized before the 8pm varsity only game on Rossi Field.
