Following a WPIBL qualifying round, three members of the Greater Latrobe Girls Bowling Team competed in the Western Pennsylvania Regional Singles Championships on Friday, March 12th, at North Versailles Bowling Center. Kaylee Zuzak, Sidney Batsa and Ayden Leone were the three to represent GLSD, and competed amongst 80 of the top female bowlers in Western PA.

Competition for Singles Regional play consists of a five-game series, followed by bracket play finals. Unlike past years, where 12 bowlers move onto State Competition, due to Covid 19 restrictions, only 8 girls will be moving on for the 2021 Championships.

While regular season play occurs on a house-shot, Regionals are played on a more challenging sports shot oil pattern, which is chosen at random two nights prior to competition.

Although all 3 girls competed well under the pressure of the competition, none were able to place high enough to qualify for the top 8 spots advancing to states. Kaylee Zuzak placed just outside of the 904 5-game cutoff, scoring a total of 871, earning her the 13th place finish. Kaylee’s scores were 160, 144, 174, 200, and 193. The highest scorer in the competition, from Burrell, was Lydia Flanagan with an even 1000. Lydia also went on to place first in the bracket finals.
