The Greater Latrobe girls’ volleyball team returned home Thursday evening for a section match with the Gateway Gators and proceeded to get back on the winning track with a 3-set sweep. Set 1 had the Cats firing on all cylinders jumping out on the Gators quickly, keeping up the pressure and cruising to a 25 – 12 win. Latrobe was able to play a large portion of its varsity lineup and the combination worked well, recording and 25 – 15 victory in set two and securing the sweep 25 – 21 in the third and final set.
Senior co-captains Emma Fenton and Gracie Wetzel led the charge on offense collecting 6 kills each with Lily Fenton scoring 5 kills, Maya Krehlik and Emma Blair 4 each and Anna Rafferty 2 kills. Krehlik , Blair and Rafferty added addition points to the Wildcats total with Krehlik accounting for 3 service aces and Blair and Rafferty chalking up blocking totals of 3 and 2 respectively.
Setting up the Wildcats offense was the duo of Lily Fenton and Emma Fenton, combining for 22 assists on the night, 12 and 10.
The Fenton girls continued their smart play on defense, leading the varsity squad with 3 digs each. The balance of the defensive contribution came from Bailey Watson with 2 digs, plus Alanna Thiel and Anna Rafferty each with 1 dig.
The Latrobe JV also swept their opponents with a two-set win 25- 18 and 25 – 17. Celsey Johnson took top honors on offense scoring a JV high 3 kills with Madison Gresh and Riley Quinn adding kills of 2 and 1.
Ava Krehlik and Mikena Marino split the setting duties for Latrobe’s JV , each collecting 3 assists for their efforts with Marino adding 1 service ace to her total.
Defensively Giovanna Jones was the team leader with 3 digs. .
The Wildcat’s take to the road next week with a Tuesday match with Penn Trafford.
