Boys Varsity Soccer traveled to play the Norwin Knights on Monday night. Expectations were high as the Wildcats came in riding a four-game winning streak and avenging an early season loss to the Knights loomed large. The matchup turned out to be one to remember. The teams had their chances throughout the first half, and with less than a minute remaining before halftime, Brendan Ash put the Knights up 1-0 after penetrating through the center channel. The Wildcats began to build momentum as the game wore on. Midway through the second half, after providing pressure at the top of the Knights’ penalty area, the Wildcats were awarded a Penalty Kick. Nico Lorenzi calmly answered the call and tied the score at the 20:33 mark. In what was great soccer to behold down the stretch, the Wildcats nearly won it multiple times near the end of regulation. Both teams moved into the first overtime period determined to finish as the victor. The pace of play allowed little room for error and the game moved to the second overtime. The defenses were able to hold their opponents scoreless, in what was a thrilling final period. Goalkeeper Tanner Sabol made multiple great saves throughout the game. The effort by the Wildcats will not soon be forgotten. The Wildcats continue in Section play at the Connellsville Falcons on Saturday afternoon. Final score Latrobe 1 – Norwin 1.
