The County Championship Cross Country meet was held Thursday at Westmoreland College. The Wildcat Cross Country teams had a strong showing with the Girls team finishing fourth with 97 points. The Lady Spartans of Hempfield were the champions with a score of 56. The Boys team finished second in an incredibly close race losing to Champion Greensburg Salem by a single point with a 48-49 score. Nine county teams competed in the meet which was held without spectators due to restrictions because of COVID-19.
Clara Herr was the top finisher for the Wildcats, finishing 4th after completing the course in 20:22. Lexie Planinsek in 7th and Aubrey Cable also earned awards. McKenna Skatell and Cora Drylie completed the scoring places for the Lady ‘Cats. Hayden Kraynick, Lizzie Planinsek, Daysha Thomas and Leah Mazur also raced. Junior Corinn Brewer from Greensburg Central Catholic outlegged Eliza Miller of Kiski Area to win the individual championship, her third, in 19:07.
Leading the way for the Boys squad was Drew Kozuch finishing 3rd in 16:52. Dante Fresura and Joseph Hill, running 4th and 6th respectively, along with Matt McCreery (17th) and David An (19th) set the score for the Wildcats. Koen Fulton and Justin Carlson also earned awards giving the team the most medalists. August Lawrence, Noah Pittman, Nathan Lemmon, Jake McElhoes and Luke Robinson ran in the Varsity race. Alex Jubert of Norwin led the field finishing in 16:22.
The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday at White Oak Park for the Tri-state Track Coaches Association meet.
